Megahertz Enet/modem card for Pb1400... what drivers?
I "inherited" a Pb1400 with a USR Megahertz XJAEM3336 Enet-modem combo PC card.
After Os 8.1 re-install the thing won't work anymore (it was said to work
before). I kept the extension & put it back into the exts folder, no luck.
The icon shows up but appletalk gives an error. This is for the Enet part,
haven't tried the modem yet.
Is there anything else I need besides the extension? I looked at the
website of Proxim (apparently they swallowed USR) & found the same
extension, nothing else. I don't have docs.
Any help is appreciated.

Well, I found that I need something called PC Card Enet extension. or
similar. The USR PC Card extension I have is only a serial driver. Don't
know if its an Apple or a USR extension. USR incidentally got eaten by
3COM, nor Proxim. 3COM only has the serial driver.

PC Card Enet extension sounds very much like an Apple extension, though
why a USR/3Com card would need an Apple extension is beyond me. Unless
USR/3Com never wrote any ethernet driver software at all and relied
entirely on Apple?
As for getting the card to work, there may have been more than an
extension, some of these cards came with control panels, or even hybrid
extension/control panel files (load at startup like ext's but have
portions that work as a cp)
according to the USR site your card's modem portion is a AT&T v.34
chipset. Not terribly useful, but the page where I found that may have
further info or links to info on the ethernet portion.
I went to USR.com and searched for XJAEM3336 and it came up with two
articles, I didn't read them completely.
BTW what icon shows up for the card? Is it a generic icon like any card,
or is it more specific like one with a USR symbol or an ethernet icon
(looks like the one to the right) <...> ? Generic icon usually means the
Mac has only recognized that there is a card there, but not what type or
what its capabilities are. Maybe try to get the software here (thanks to
google and the model number you provided!)
