Metadata? Keywords? in Bridge?
Hey smart gang of InDesign people:
Why the two panels for metadata? What is the difference between the two? Aren't keywords a form of metadata? What's the indepth meaning?

Re: Metadata? Keywords? in Bridge?
Either nobody knows, or knowbody is not here or nobody likes being greeted "Hey, smart guy".
Just a guess.
My 2 cent regarding your question:
one notorious source of errors when applying keywords are typos if you try to enter the keywords every time for every image.
So: Keywords are no special metadata.
But Bridge offers a special means to apply them, which prevents you from entereing eny typos which would render the keywords unusable.
Does that make sense to you?

Re: Metadata? Keywords? in Bridge?
I saw your message but was too busy to answer.
Metadata means information about a file. It can include several kinds of information: File Properties (filename, document kind, date created, etc.); Camera Data (captured by a digital camera); IPTC Core is a standardized set of metadata defined by the International Press & Telecommuncations Council (Creator, Headline, Description, etc.); Edit History (created in Photoshop}; Fonts and Swatches (created by InDesign CS2}; and so on.
The Metadata panel in Adobe Bridge shows each of these types of metadata in separate sections which can be opened or closed.
Keywords is one piece of metadata stored in the IPTC section.
Some metadata is generated automatically, others can be added manually. Keywords are usually added manually.
The Keywords panel is a convenience for consistently identifying files by keywords. "For example, instead of labeling some of your images with a 'car' keyword and others with an 'automotive' keyword, you can create lists of keywords to use. You can create your keywords in advance, much like creating styles or swatch colors in InDesign or Illustrator."
(from Chapter 3 of my book Real World Adobe Creative Suite 2 with Sandee Cohen, "View from the Bridge," Peachpit Press).
The Keywords panel lets you create categories of keywords that are called keyword sets.

Steve said:

That makes practical sense to me now. Thanks for helping the lightbulb go on for me! I will convey this to a client who was working with me yesterday when this question came up.
Best regards,

Re: Metadata? Keywords? in Bridge?
It would be great to create keyword taxonomies with hierarchies of different depth and multiple inheretance. Is this possible?
