    Default Metas in Templates

    I could use some help. I built my clients sites using templates (using DWMX04).
    One main template for a 5-9pg site. On the child pages, I want to insert the
    meta keywords for each page. (According to the SEO info I've been reading up
    on, you should have different meta keywords for each page).

    But, every time I make changes to the main template page, it removes all the
    meta keyword paragraphs from the child pages. Is there any way around this? Or,
    a fix of some sorts.

    Any advice is greatly appreciate. Thank you,

    You are reading the wrong info then. The major search engines have ignored
    keyword metas for years. You can say anything you want in there - why would
    a spider rank your page based on such an arbitrary thing?

    Anyhow, a DMX2004 template has an editable region in the head of the page
    specifically for such things. Just use that for your meta descriptions.
    You would do this on each child page, not in the template.

    Thank you for the feedback, Murry.

    I got the info from many sources, including some newer articles written on
    what 'order' the search engines are looking at info for rankings. I noticed I
    can add the descriptions into the head <html> area of the page, but each time I
    make changes to the template, the metas are removed and I have to manually add
    them again. This is what I'm wondering about.

    Also, the fact that I cannot give each page it's own 'Page Title'. The program
    won't let me do that, either.

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    If you look hard enough, you can find that the earth is flat, too. These
    sources you are using are just misinformed if they are saying that meta
    keywords are useful. Here are some good sources for you to consider -

    Are you adding them into an editable region in the head of the page?
    > but each time I
    > make changes to the template, the metas are removed
    This would indicate that you are NOT doing that - which makes me wonder HOW
    you are adding them to the non-editable regions at all. Are you using DW to
    do this?

    OK - that nails it. Your templates were not properly created. Can you
    show me one? Maybe upload one and post a link to it, please.

    Do you have something like this in your template?

    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
    <title>Page title</title>
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->

    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="description" -->
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->

    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="keywords" -->
    <!-- Template
    EndEditable -->

    No. I don't believe I do. Is it possible for me to add it in using the 'code' page?

    Default Re: Metas in Templates

    Do this. Create a new page. Save it as a template using FILE | Save as
    template.... Now look at the code. Make the head region of your template
    look like the head region of the page you just created vis-a-vis editable
    regions.

    Now you will be able to edit the title on all child pages, as well as add
    unique meta tags....
