Migration from 7.22 to 9.4 - Informix

I have been asked to migrate an existing Informix 7.22 system to 9.4 on a windows NT platform. Does anyone know where I might find a migration guide to highlight the steps I need to go through as I understand this requires a dbexport/dbimport of the data. Thanks in advance....

There is a manual available, called something like Informix Migration
Guide. Also load the new S/W and check the release notes in
$INFORMIXDIR/release/*/*. You will find a doent called something like
ids_migrate_docnotes_9.40.html with additional port specific notes. You
should be checking the other docs in that directory prior to an upgrade in
    any case.

I would have thought you could do an in-place upgrade, but check with IBM
tech support first. Also a good idea to do a test run on a test machine if
    you can.

    Cheers,

Ah yes, such wise words. And remember your test has to be representative,
    too. And reproducible.

    I don't think that we directly migrate from 7.22 to 9.4. You'll
probably need to plan on a step migration. (i.e. migrate to 7.31
first). If you do that, then dbexport/dbimport would not be required.

If you want to go the dbexport/dbimport route, then you should be able
    to skip the 7.31 step.

On what basis to you say that? Where's the incompatibility?

It's not a case that there is a known incompatibility. It's a case of
what has been tested and what has not. Please check the 9.4 migration
    guide for details.
