Minimum Requirements for Efficient Internet Server
Friends,
Our school is receiving a donation of Windows Server 2003
Enterprise Edition with 25 client licenses. As we already
have one server, running Server 2003 Standard, to act as
our internal network server, this new server will likely
serve only as our Internet server (web site, e-mail,
etc.) and as a backup to the primary server's DNS and
domain controller functions.
I have reviewed the minimum and recommended system
requirements for Enterprise Edition. But what I'd like to
know from people out there who've actually used the
product is what system requirements are necessary in
order to actually get a reasonable, efficient operation
out of it instead of something that is just
passably "functional."
For example, Microsoft's recommended requirements say a
733 MHz processor or better. But does that mean -any- 733
or better processor? Would a 2.2 GHz Celeron, for
example, run it acceptably, or would we need a Pentium 4?
They also recommend 256 megs of RAM. Is that a realistic
recommendation, or should we be looking at 512 or 1 gig?
Any other major considerations we should be looking at?
Thanks!

Minimum Requirements for Efficient Internet Server
I am using a P4 2.8 Ghz machine with 2GB RAM and a 120GB
hard drive. I think that a 1.6Ghz machine with 1GB RAM
and 60 GB hard drive is probably about the minimum you
would want to go. Just my opinion, and I am a novice.>-----Original Message-----

Re: Minimum Requirements for Efficient Internet Server
I'm running my web/mail server on an old Athlon 1.4 Ghz Thunderbird core
with 512 MB ram and 40gig HDD. I think you could safely get away with 1GHz
for a dedicated server.
