Re: Minolta Dimage 7i
Hi, Frank.
I have one, used it for about a year before moving up to a Canon DSLR.
Image quality is pretty good -- not up to the Canon standards, but decent.
Colors are excellent.
Low-light sensitivity is not great; it is fine for daylight or flash shots,
not very good for night work. Sensor is too noisy to be much good for star
shots or exposures of longer than about 4 seconds.
Autofocus is slow but pretty accurate.
7X zoom lens is nice.
Manual focus is very hard to work because the electronic viewfinder is not
sharp enough for good focusing.
Camera can be used in manual mode, which I used most of the time. I shoot
mostly landscapes.
In manual mode the electronic view finder is very useful, because you can
get a good idea of the exposure before shooting.
It is pretty power-hungry, always carry extra batteries. Uses 4 AA.
Lens has 49mm threads, but the only filters that can be used without
vignetting are the Cokin series.
It is kind of picky about the compact flash cards used -- some brands/sizes
don't work.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have further
questions, ask.
Also... mine is on the closet shelf here doing nothing. If you are
interested, I'm sure I can offer you a good deal on it.
