Default Missing Boot.ini

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I have a Windows 2000 server
which reboots every week and has done so for about a year. This week when it
rebooted the OS would not load. I used ERD to get into the file system and
found that the boot.ini was totally missing. After recreating it, the server
booted just fine.

I am 99% sure that no one deleted the boot.ini but of course I can't be 100%
sure of that. No one has access other then two of us Domain Admins and three
application support people.

Virus software is up to date and functioning properly. Everything else seems
to be normal.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

This issue crops up once in a great while. In of itself I wouldn't be
concerned unless it happens again.

OK, I just spent an hour trying to a KB articles about

I'm sure Ralph will have the same problem finding an

I'll have to check this
As former NAI employee, I'm sure about the issue, but not sure about the
communication.
If my memory's still good, it was impacted Groupshield 5.0 for Exchange.
Problem occurs during auto-update, under some circumstance. Off course, can
only been during the first reboot after the faulty update.

I'll have a look, and I'll post as soon as I find something.

Got article from Microsoft here :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;319011

Groupshield 5.0 has a bug in the update sub-system, after a succesful
update, all files in %SYSTEMDRIVE%\ are deleted.
Bug fix with a hotfix or by Groupshield 5.2 (do not install Groupshield 6.0,
I haven't heard anything good about this version yet).
