missing decompression Xtra
If on a new machine you go to a 3D shockwave content page a problem occurs.
The plugin gets automatically updated to 10, then it figures out it needs the
missing 3D xtra ("light" shockwave plugin does not include this).
But the content does not work after this. Because it is missing an image
decompression Xtra. You get an error and textures will not load.
It seems if you go to the Shockwave plugin page first and install, this will
not happen.
How does one fix Shockwave 3D content so the image decompression xtra
automatically loads?
This seems like a Macromedia "shockwave light" bug to me.

The original author needs to mark all required xtras as "Download if> automatically loads?
needed..." and republish/upload the dcr file

Re: missing decompression Xtra
Thanks, but on which Xtra?
The error given does not say it is the 3D Xtra.
Nor is it obvious from the error what Xtra it needs.
The content in question runs, but all the textures in the 3D world are white.
So I know it loaded the 3D Xtra.
The textures come from both W3D cast members and imported into the cast alpha
TIF files.
What Xtra does the 3D Xtra use on the texture images?

Re: missing decompression Xtra
The exact error is a dialog box that says "missing shockwave decompression Xtra" with an OK button.
Is that the error you get if you are missing the 3D Xtra?

Re: missing decompression Xtra
AFAIK, Shockwave 3D members require not only the SW3D xtra but some
others too. The error message makes it sound like Swadcmpr.x32 is
missing - do you by any chance have sounds in your file? Which platform
are you developing on?

Re: missing decompression Xtra
Yes it has sounds, it plays wav files.
I am using Director 8.5.1 on the PC.
I will see if checking download if needed on the sound xtra helps.
Thanks.

Re: missing decompression Xtra
I deleted all Xtra's, added defaults, checked download if needed on all, and re-burned the dcrs.
It now auto installs and works on a fresh machine.
Thank you!

Missing decompression XTRA
Hi
i have had, i think, a simular problem. After downloading Shockwave many times
and trying a certain game and getting error missing shockwave decompression
xtra i managed to find that the game site was directing me to the slim
shockwave installer and i since found out there is a Full one too. I tried the
full version 10 download and now everything works. note the slim takes 6 mins
dialup and is 2,801 K where as the full takes 12 mins and is 5,644 K.
Anyway have a go see if it works.
i unistalled all previous versions of shockwave, rebooted, downloaded full
installer, closed all applications including browser before clicking run to
install, after installed i rebooted and now it all works.
Here is the link. http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
Just scroll down choose Full installer.
hope this helps.
