    Default missing files

This is a wierd thing and if it had not happened to users on two separate occasions I wouldn't think anything of it... All the PDF documents in My Documents disappear. They are not in the Recycle Bin and after doing a search, they are nowhere on the hard drive. I can't understand how this could be a problem with the program but it is odd that it has happened twice to two different people using Acrobat 6 and only the PDF files disappear.

Have you sacked anyone recently who may hold a grudge? This is a half-serious question - this sort of thing shouldn't happen without human intervention or some other malicious activity.

They work in two different departments and nobody else could log into their computers without the admin password which only the technical staff has. As usual, they were told to store files on the network in the future so we could restore the files if it happens again. It was just very strange that both of these users had the same thing happen after installing the Acrobat 6 program and I was just shooting in the dark wondering if anyone else had had this happen after installing the program.

    Some thoughts.

    1. Some people consider "My documents" to be nothing but a work space,
and delete everything there without a thought. The same for the
desktop; I have actually seen people sit at someone else's computer
and delete all the files on the desktop before they started.

    2. Uninstalling Acrobat 5 unfortunately may remove PDF files created
in its default location, but I don't remember whether that is My
    Documents.

    3. And if they have roaming profiles My Documents is saved to/restored from a server point. It is possible that they may not have logged off cleanly in which case the items in My Documents may not have been saved back to the server and when they logged on an older version of My Documents without the pdf files may have been restored. There are supposed to be dialog boxes etc. in place to prevent such things happening without you knowing but, in my experience, the majority of Users don't even look at the screen, let alone individual dialog boxes, when logging on.

    FWIW
