Missing Print Progress Bar--bug or feature?

Good points, Simon; my colleagues and I weren't aware that it was only an Intel problem, since we still use Acrobat 7 on our G5s.

I'll be very interested to see what Customer Care has to say.

And yes, very good point about not having a cancel button.
I know when I am printing things there may actually be other things about a progress bar which are beneficial, but I can't remember them right now.
Basically, if a progress bar was never needed, there would never have been one.

Interesting how it's an Intel only anomaly.
Could be the code was overlooked?

The progress bars for other operations do not use the system-standard progress bars; this implies to me that Adobe is indeed doing is own programming for these items rather than using the established Mac OS toolbox. So the problem is likely in their code. (Why in heaven's name can't they be happy with Mac OS's "look"? Maybe because it doesn't look enough like a PC?)

Customer Care closed the case, citing that you could use the system print queue to cancel any jobs. They must think that people just print 10-20 page, text only PDFs. I've reopened the case and presented the case of sending a 300Mb image-rich PDF to print, from which only a 10 page section was required. I've explained that with the current setup:

1. you don't get to see which pages are printing,
2. it looks like the system has crashed and,
3. if you were aware of an error during sending, you can't cancel until the job has ripped and spooled.

Hopefully, they'll get this resolved with an update soon. But, as it's not corrected in version 9 either, I'm not sure how much of a priority they will view this.

I doubt that this will ever get fixed in Acrobat 8.1. Its history.
However, this issue still exists in Acrobat 9 as far as I can tell.
Adobe does respond when enough users report thru the appropriate

I have sent a "bug report" to the above link.
Let's not let this just die out.
I don't want Adobe sweeping this under the rug.
Progress bars have been around forever and they are there for a reason.
This is definitely an error that is being ignored.

If you want it fixed, get your friends and family to post bug reports.
Things that effect many are more likely to be fixed than things that
effect just a few people.

We are actually seeking ways to off / hide the printing progress window, as we guess it has impact on the printing job and make the job hanged. The pdf printing job is running under Windows. Do you know is there any way to hide the progress window?
