Missing taskbar buttons
Recently, my 3 month old Dell lost the ability to show
taskbar buttons. The rest of the taskbar is fine. The
other user profiles are fine (they are not "computer
administrator"). I suspect I have corrupt the taskbar
manager, but have no idea where it is so that I may copy
it from one of the other accounts.
Any ideas?

Re: Missing taskbar buttons
By the task bar buttons i would expect you are talking about the quick
launch bar which displays the show desktop / minimise all windows, internet
explorer and the windows media player buttons by default.
Simply right click on the task bar in an empty spot and select toolbars >
quicklaunch.
If that does not help you can try going start > run and in the open box
type:
explorer C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
A window will appear. You can then drag and drop shortcuts into this window
and they will appear on the task bar.

Re: Missing taskbar buttons
There seems to be an issue with the Icon Area of the XP Taskbar.
I deleted my account, after using the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard"
to safely store my settings.
I then re-created the account and restored the settings. This recovered my
Icon Area. Good Luck!
