Missing Text after Using Enter Key
I have opened a Pagemaker 7 file in ID CS. While working on 20 lines of text, if I hit the enter key in line 1 to force some words down to the next line line 2. The text lines 2 to 20 disappear on the screen, but if I go into story editor it is there. But I need it on the screen so that it will print with the document. Help, I an new to ID CS.

Re: Missing Text after Using Enter Key
Use the Enter or Return key on the main keyboard, not on the numeric keypad. The numeric keypad enter tells the text to jump to the next text frame.

Re: Missing Text after Using Enter Key
Actually, its a column break. But there are other issues that could be
causing it.
Check your keep options and be aware that ID's text engine is far
superior to PM's. If you set things up right, you shouldn't have to
force a line break very ofter.
And one other thing, if you want the text to stay as part of the same
paragraph use shift+enter.

Re: Missing Text after Using Enter Key
The problem for me was that the geniuses at Lenovo mapped both my "normal" enter key and numpad enter to numpad enter, sooooo:
You can use function + [numpad] enter to do regular enter, or you can change the keyboard shortcut:
edit, keyboard shortcuts
product area: type menu
(first, make numpad enter not add a column break)
click on "insert break character: column break"
click on the line listed under "current shortcuts", then "remove"
(now, make numpad enter function as notmal enter)
click on "insert break character: paragraph return"
click on the textbox under "new shortcut"
push your enter key
change "context" to text
then click assign.
Now your enter key (that your OS/Indesign actually thinks is numpad enter) will act like a normal enter key.
As an alternative, for advanced users, to permanently solve the problem you can remap the key using a program called sharpkeys.imnotminkus Guest
