Default missing txt URGENT Help NEEDED???????

    Hi,

When exporting a simple txt document to pdf bits of txt are disappearing.

    This is what im doing
    1. Pasting txt into CS from wrd.
    2. Changing Font to Arial pt 10
    3. eXPORT TO pdf

= lines of txt are Missing

The missing txt is sometimes being replaced by a small box??????

The strange thing is when i dont alter the txt font or size it works fine and when i change it back to original font(times) from arial it works fine again.

This is really puzzling me because 90% of the txt shows fine but odd bits are simply missing.

    Please Help

    Thanks

    Ben

The original text probably contains characters that the Arial font you are using does not.

    1. Don't paste, use the Place command
    2. Save the Word doc as Rich Text Format (.rtf) to get rid of special
    characters

    Hope this helps -

No need to place the text. When exporting make sure to change subset
fonts below to 0%. This will ensure that the font is completely embedded
in PDF. This will enlarge the file a bit.

Just to be sure...you did read Stu's post, right? The text is missing in
the PDF, not the ID document?

Check the PDF export options for font embedding to find the subset option.

Yea the txt is missing in the PDF not the ID document. The source txt was Times. No special characters. I havn't had this problem before. Puzzling????

Ive just set the subset fonts to 0% and there is still txt missing.

After opening up the pdf file a warning box came up saying: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'ArialMT'. Some charachters may not display or print correctly"

    Any ideas????

    thanks Ben

When i clicked OK another warning box appeared saying "a drawing error occured"

Seems to be something other than the font. Or maybe the font is corrupt
in some way. Try reinstalling it from disk, if you can.

It's basic Windows housekeeping. Fonts are installed using a font
manager...which any professional should have...or lacking a font manager
by using the Windows font control panel.

I think your problem is that you have two versions of the font installed somehow (I don't know enough about Windows to know how you would do that, but with the Adobe font folders and the Windows font folders, I suppose that it is as achievable on a Windows machine as it is on a Mac).

When you view the PDF, do you have "Use Local Fonts" activated? If so, try deactivating it -- perhaps the problem is that Acrobat (or Adobe Reader) is simply using the wrong Times when it displays your PDF.

You can indeed have two versions installed. And it will cause all kinds
of problems since the system will simply pick which one to use at random.

I have noticed when exporting from CS a warning box comes up saying
"Use of an output colour space which differs from the transparency blending colour space may cause colour shifts in the resulting pdf"

Could this be the problem as i seem to remember this coming up when the problems started.

    thanks

The color space has nothing to do with fonts.

What about "Use Local Fonts" in Acrobat or Adobe Reader (whichever you're using)? How is that set? If it's switched off, then we have one problem; if on, switch it off.

It's in the Document menu on my Mac. I'm using Reader 6.0; are you?
