Hello
I am new to illustrator.
I need to draw a mobius band.
Can anyone explain how I might be able to do this?
Thanks,
FT

Re: mobius band
A mobius band is a strip that loops back on itself like a paper band
The difference is a mobius band only has on side. This is acomplished by twisting the ends of a strip 180º and joining them. Easily done with paper not so easy in a drawing program.

Re: mobius band
You can do this in AI CS.
Draw a figure 8 divide it into two paths then extrude both one at a time then you might have to adjust the position a little bit.

Re: mobius band
The secret to the moebius band is the twist and indicated in previous posts.
So, first develop your skills in creating the twist you desire. (forget the rest of the element)
Here is a simple # 8 moebius strip.
First run through this tutorial. Note, I actually have not viewed the tutorial but I assume it will show how to cut paths and send portions to the back to look like knotwork.
Either with the pen, brush or pencil (whatever you are most comfortable with a stroke but no fill…
Draw a larger upper loop, curver down and draw a smaller lower loop, curve back up and cross the line and draw a smaller upper inner loop. Follow the same spacing around and continue around the smaller lower loop creating a larger lower outer loop.
As the lower out loop curves back up, cross over the lines and join it with the starting point.
Apply a fill and divide from the pathfinder. Join desired elements and delete undesired elements. Use the technique learned to move a cross over strip to the back.
No, this is not the easiest description on how to do this, but there are so many shapes the can be formed to a moebius strip in that it is difficult to describe (for me anyway) and the links posted before is all you really need.

What is a mobius band?
They're from Seattle. Every song sounds just like the last one.

Re: mobius band
John your link does work.
You cut the path with the scissor tool.

Re: mobius band
Perhaps the most famous Moebius strip is the one done by M. C. Escher, which depicts some ants walking around on one, never reaching the end. This and others examples of how he used the Moebius strip in his work can be seen here. <http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~sequin/SCULPTS/SEQUIN/moebius.html>

I like the Bridge I think it could be the answer to the traffic problem here in New York City.
And it would kind of give everyone a chance to take in the skyline. The endless sunset.

Re: mobius band
Well, I can't get to John's link. And I'm not having luck with my colors. Keep in mind I'm trying to use AI9 on my PC. I tried fooling with the gradient mesh, but it kept locking up the program.
Here's what I have so far. Just fooling around with it though. If I had more time I could probably do better. I just took one of the examples linked in the earlier posts and tried to redraw it.
(I hope that worked)

Get rid of whatever odd character in the file name that is indicated by "%20". Make sure you're pointing to the correct directory in your URL.

It works Dee.
Very good Mobius Band, the only problem with your link is that the sound is not working and I really wanted to rock!

Re: mobius band
I'll have to work on that sound thing, Wade. But the band isn't very good I'm afraid. Having alot of problems colorizing the thing. But as I said, I don't have alot of time to play. Sheepdogs and teenagers are very active these days.
