Model release / Can of worms - Photography

I am getting enquiries about selling my images for commercial purposes. Typically the images are of sporting events. What's the go with "model" releases in this case? eg .. take a photo of Schumacher (say) and sell that for a web-site, brochure or something? Perhaps a too high profile an example. Take a photo of colts rugby or something ...? Cheers James...

People seeking public recognition (Schumacher, for example) who are in
public places have no say over your images. Race tracks are not "public
places" so get the permission of the promoters to be there and take photos
because they most certainly do have an interest in photographs taken on
    their property being sold.

As a rule of thumb. Public places are identified by the fact that the public
has free thoroughfare with out fee. If The Prime minister stood on the steps
of Parliament house and you took a photo of him, you are free to sell it
without reference to him but if you do the same thing inside the house, you
    have to address copyright issues.

Some joker in Bondi a few years ago started a "Photojournalist" course and
set himself up as some sort of guild or association so he could 'sell' his
students press passes. Surely there must be a legitimate association you
could join and get a recognised press pass? Contact APRA in Canberra to see
what they have in this regard.www.apra.com.au

Unless you work for a recognised press organisation it is virtually
impossible to get a press pass that will allow you press access to major
    events.

agreed - a "pass" is only as good as the company named on it, and the
    credentials that back it up.

I've come across several who have made 'their own' passes - almost
without execption they failed to gain entry to various events. In at
least 1 case, I saw police called and the photographer/journalist
talked to about obtaining benefits by deception.

For specific events, you can request access as a freelance, although
you usually need proof of being commissioned before they accept you.

    Otherwise, good luck :)
