modem on all the time - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hi Newbie question Am running MDK 9.1 thru a netopia router giving me acces to my network at home and to the web When I boot from Linux (working 8 hours gives me 8 hours of connection and sadly to say I do not have an unlimited connextion) its on all the time how can I configure my machine to only connect to the web when I open K mail or K node etc or tell these programs to upload/download hoping that I was clear Thanks Trevor...

    Newbie question

    Am running MDK 9.1 thru a netopia router giving me acces to my network at

    There is an option in the ppp configuration file to enable/disable dialing
    on boot-up.
