Moving a page (Adjusting print area) - Macromedia Freehand

I'm working on a large format map but don't have a large format printer. To check out how things are looking I'd like to be able to print a 1 letter-size page portion of my map. On Adobe Illustrator, one can move the "page tool" around and adjust the area that gets printed. I've always appreciated the way that FH handled pages (including more than one page) much better until now. If I change the page size from my current 24" x 36" to an 8.5" x 11" and then try to move the page to the area I want ...

Default Moving a page (Adjusting print area)

I'm working on a large format map but don't have a large format printer. To
check out how things are looking I'd like to be able to print a 1 letter-size
    page portion of my map.

On Adobe Illustrator, one can move the "page tool" around and adjust the area
that gets printed. I've always appreciated the way that FH handled pages
(including more than one page) much better until now.

If I change the page size from my current 24" x 36" to an 8.5" x 11" and then
try to move the page to the area I want to print, it moves every object that
falls on the page in its default location.

Is there anyway to do what I need to do in FH?

    Thanks!

What version of FH are you using?

In FHMX, use the Output Area tool. Check 'output area' in the print dialog.

Is your printer a Postscript printer? If so you can print one tile. Drag the
page origin from the intersection of the rulers, to the lower left of the
section you want to print. In the print dialog, check Tile/Manual.

You can also move the print area by dragging the preview in the FH Advanced
print dialog window, but that method is severely lacking in precision.

Thanks, I'd just found that "print area" tool. Unfortunately FH can't seem to
cope with the size of the file (12.1 MB). It crashes every time I try to print
or export a PDF of that area. I can export a TIF and print from Photoshop, but
I don't know how well this will go when I go to print. Any ideas how to get FH
not to crash when I print? Perhaps I'll have to start a new thread on this
when I do some more experimenting.

Check out 'manual tiling' in the help
