    Default Moving email to Ubuntu

    Gents:

I'm considering moving my email-client-function to Ubuntu. Currently I
use OPERA email client on my longtime fav WinME < rock solid 4 hours
    at a time .. %^\ ... it has NEVER trashed-one-byte in 6-years of daily use!! > .

Is there a *nix consensus on a lusr_friendly, transparent-to-update and
    bulletproof email client?

** In these "uncertain" times, an actually usable PGP_function -- as
opposed to every byte_meister horror I have encourtered the
    last-5-years -- would be a significant +++ to an email client . ***

    JH:

I'm looking at more than OPERA. For years on Win-X I'd used the Netscape
email client. But after V-7.x it because unstable on my WinME box -- I
bounced to OPERA. It's not bad.
I have no desire whatsoever to upgrade my M$ OS. Various versions of
*nix have come-and-gone on my "2nd" box.

About 6-mo ago I decided to test Ubuntu as my news-group reader. PAN has
been a big success. I started thinking ' ... lets try more ...' Mostly,
more Ubuntu has turned out better. Migrating my email client from
Win-X will be a major step. I don't want to blunder into a pretty face,
    only to find gotchas allover.

    That's why I ask ...

I find either Evolution or Mozilla Thunderbird either one to be great. I
also use Opera from time to time and appreciate the way it handles
email. While Opera functioned best as a browser for me in a Windows
environment, I find Firefox to better with Ubuntu. For News I too am a
big fan of Pan. I just migrated from Windows the end of January and
    can't see ever going back.

It is just as stable. But I don't use it for mail that much. I prefer
thunderbird, because it also does newsgroups. I prefer opera as a
browser compared to firefox, as it loads pages way faster. But
sometimes come across pages that render better in firefox than opera.

If you like netscape mail, then it is also avaible (or mozilla). I have
used it too, it was always stable...

I have not used it but read very favorable opinions about it.
You can see it as the proving grounds for Netscape.

Because its on a different platform and might be a different release?

FWIW, Opera performs like a dog on my Ubuntu 5.10 system : Firefox 1.5
is a lot more reliable and loads pages much faster for some reason. I
use evolution as an email client and like it a *lot*.
