Moving from Solaris/CDE to Solaris/GNOME? - Sun Solaris

Has anyone seen any guidelines, tips, etc. for helping non-technical users move from CDE (or OpenLook... don't laugh) to GNOME? I just made the move a week ago and found that things like menu settings, setup applications, etc. all had to be reestablished. It would be useful to find any notes for locating and perhaps 'converting' files from the previous windowing systems to the new one. -- <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > <URL: http://www.tcl.tk/ > Even if explicitly stated to the contrary, nothing in this posting should be construed as representing my employer's opinions. <URL: mailto:com > <URL: http://www.purl.org/NET/lvirden/ >...

I did this in the past 6 months. Gnome installed and ran fine for a
while. Slowed down everthing on my Ultra 10 immediately. Then one day it
quit working with a startup message to contact the vendor. It was not
worth the trouble and didn't solve any problems I had with CDE (which
    number zero, btw).

Yep - not really much help there. A link to 10 reasons to move to GNOME.
A FAQ that tells me that there will be a menu to the 'standard
    CDE applications'.

During searches of google, I ran across a message or two that seemed to
imply some sort of white paper or manual specifically dealing with tips
and guidelines for converting a user's .dt files, etc. So far however
I've not found such a doent.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.
