    Default Multiple Master Fonts

I am using Mac OSX (10.2.8) and Macromedia Freehand MX along with Font Agent
Pro 2.0 (to manage my fonts). When using Multiple Master fonts all of them will
default to the base font when printing or converting to paths (any bold,
italic, extended, etc. will default back). Illustrator in comparison does not
have this problem. Does anyone have a suggestion?

What version of FHMX are you using? There was a bug fix in FH 11.0.2
    regarding MM fonts:

The problem Peter describes has most certainly not been fixed by any of
the updates thus far (at least on the mac). All MM Fonts will revert to
the base font at print time or when you 'convert to paths', which
renders them pretty much useless for serious typography in MX.

I agree that there are some serious font handling problems with FHMX/OS X.

Sadly for those who purchased Multiple Master fonts, Adobe is no longer
developing or supporting the Multiple Master format. OpenType is the wave of
    the future.

Quote from near the end of the article:
"Today, multiple master technology is all but dead. A couple of years ago,
Adobe stopped officially supporting it -- which means, in effect, that
there's no guarantee that a multiple master font will work properly in new
    versions of Adobe applications."

I suppose the same is true for Macromedia applications.

    Hi Judy

I agree that OpenType is the way of the future but sadly Macromedia
still has not implemented support for these i.e. only the basic 256
glyphs are able to be accessed which means the only fonts I can use
reliably in FH are Type 1 fonts with their associated expert sets if
available. I have petitioned MM several times since the development of
OS X, for unicode/opentype support, alas to no avail at this late stage!

May I also take this opportunity to thank you for the time you spend
here helping people solve their various problems with the program, I
can't count the amount of invaluable tips I've learned here from you,
    JET and others, so thanks.

    Take care

OpenType requires a completely overhauled text engine and a loss of
backwards compatibility. If you think it's is a painless process, read the
furor on the adobe.illustrator.macintosh forum. The posts by Mordy Golding
    are the most informative.
