multiple processsor - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

hi, i have a linux system with multpile processors ( for example 4) if i take on or more processors out of the system. what will happen? must i compile the kernel? thx sandra...

    No, you must give your machine to me, because you don't understand
    enough about computing to use it effectively.

    A kernel is either compiled for SMP or not, it's not compiled for
    exactly 4, 2 processors etc. So if you pull 2 processors out of a 4
    processor system it still needs an SMP kernel.

    If you reduce the number of processors to 1, the SMP kernel will still
    work, but there is some overhead in having the unnecessary code present
    - maybe 10%. A system with 1 processor will run a bit faster with a UP
    kernel.
