We have a very annoying, sporadic problem, with folder redirection of My
documents. Server side is w2k3 clients are a mix of w2k and XP. A share has
been created as in KB 274443 with the permissions as stated in that article,
our problem occurs with new users the first time they login. We don't
create a users Home directory we use My Documents redirection to do this for
us. The users home folder is created fine (\\server\home$\userid) BUT
increasingly NO permissions are being applied to the folder. When you try
and examine the security properties for the folder the Groups or user names
box is completely empty and everything is greyed out (the user gets an
access denied error when trying to open their my documents) the only thing
you can do is take ownership and then get the folder to inherit the correct
permissions. We VERY rarely had this problem when we ran a w2k domain, but
the problem is now happening a large amount of the time.
