Re: My graphics look terrible!!
Try setting your Display performance to High Quality. And make sure that when you are printing that your Images: Send Data is set to "All"
Warning: leaving your display performance set to High Quality will most likely slow ID down to glacial. It's nice to be able to see how the pictures really look, but I recommend that you keep it on Typical otherwise.

Re: My graphics look terrible!!
Have you set your Display Performance to High Quality? Use the View menu for the current window or visit preferences to change the default setting for all new windows (the small top part of the panel does that -- the larger bottom part allows you to customize the meanings of the three choices).
If your problem is at the printing stage, make sure you are sending All the graphics data to the printer and not the (default) optimized subsampled data.

Re: My graphics look terrible!!
Jpegs are a lossy format making changes and resaving will degrade the image.
Save as PSD or Tiff.

You can also use the contextual menu (hold down the control button when you clik) to do a quick display change. I believe this works on a single object as well. Overprint Preview will also do a quick display change.
