Default mySQL connection

Is it possible to create a mySQL database on my local computer and then
upload it to my server, and if so what do I need to make sure to do in my
setup?

Default Re: mySQL connection

Yes. You can download a version for your machine:

http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-4.0.html

After you install it, you will also need to install the mySQL odbc
driver so you can use the Data sources panel to add connectivity (Windows).
You can also try using MySQL Front to make administration easier:

Yeah I have done all that, I was just wondering how to put the site with the
mySQL database connected. Do I need to setup it up anyway specific as far as
passwords and usernames go? I established a connection just using localhost
and root with no password, but I have a feeling that will not be what I need
to upload it to the net.

I'm sorry for the late reply. You will have to connect to your remote
database using Dreamweaver so when you upload your pages, it will work
without modifying anything. So instead of developing using 'localhost', just
use the MySQL IP or host. I hope this helps.

Default Re: mySQL connection

When defining your database connection (from the Databases tab), you can
either use localhost (your local db) or use the one that's live on your web
server. Your hosting company's MySQL server should have a host or IP, that's
what you can put in your connection info. As an example:

BEFORE
------------
Connection Name: ConnTest
MySQL Server: localhost
User Name: sa
Password: sa
Database: MySQL

AFTER
------------
Connection Name: ConnTest
MySQL Server: mysql.site.com
User Name: sa
Password: sa
Database: MySQL

This way, you're directly working on the live database. And when you upload
the pages that
are done, you don't need to worry since everything will be seamless unlike
when working locally.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Default MySQL Connection

Hi!

Questions about the MySQL DB
I have developed a shockwave application. In this I have implemented a system
connect with gotonetpage instruction.
With this last I use a open.window inside javascript for execute a perl in a
remote server.
Thus I can do a query transactions to MySQL data base. In the same perl I have
created a work file results.
In the applicaton I have a function inside exitFrame that read this file by
getNetText when it's created.
This process get very time and I belive it's not optime enought,
Other alernative is use the XDK to develop a specific xtra to do this. But I'm
not sure because could be possible that I can't use security and private
methods in this develop kit.

Which's the most way ?

Thanks and regards ;)

I am also having problems setting up connections to PHP/MySQL both in
Dreamweaver MX 2004 and the third party software PHPMyAdmin (on Windows XP and
Windows 2000). I am getting the same error message. I'm still looking for
answers, but it does appear that the distributors of MySQL only very recently
changed their application instance installation directory from c:\MySQL\ to the
more conventional and proper value of C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1\.
Is Dreamweaver MX 2004 and other programs just looking for drivers and ini
files in the wrong directory? Is there some dreamweaver xml or ini file or
registry key that has this directory path that needs to be changed? Is there
an outside formum where there might be solutions to this?

Frustrated with my trial copy and re-contemplating the evil Front Page,

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! NOT THE FRONT PAGE!!! lol

reeeeeeally don't like that program...dunno if it's the Microsoft tag or
what...but it bothers me for some reason...

see if I can find a twelve step program somewher on it...should be ok...

as for the connectivity issue...it really kinda hints at a software glitch
since just about everything can basically be seen...but not accessed. And when
I add the root directory address and it completely loses
it...well...yeah...could be a variable that defaults to the root directory to
begin with and when you input that information, you get the 'ol double link
which obviously will not work...when I leave the r.d. out, it connects just
fine...still can't access the database from within Dreamweaver, but I can see
it...

odd...

This problem is really frustrating and is cross platform. I'm on a mac with
the following configuration:

PHP v4.3.4
Apache v1.3.33
MySQL 3.23.49
Dreamweaver MX 2004

First I got the error mentioned (An unidentified error has occured), made some
adjustments and now I can't get past this error: "1251 client does not support
authentication protocol"

I've searched around and there does not seem to be a solution to this problem.
I was going through the tutorial from Marius Zaharia (InterAKT developer) and
I can't get past connecting to the db in dm. I am trying to run it all locally
and I've heard that could be the problem but who knows....

Does anyone have a solution?

Default MySQL connection

I apologise in advance for my rubbish question, but I'm tearing my hair out
trying to connect to a MySQL datasource!!!!
I'm using MySQL as my datasource for the first time (previously only used
Access) and have installed MySQL to C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1.
The database I create in MySQL automatically goes into the data directory in
this folder.
When I log into my CF administrator, and try to add a MySQL datasource I'm
unsure as to what values I should put in the "Database" and "Server" fields.
I've read somewhere on this site that I should put the server to "(local)" but
it doesn't give me the option to browse to the database file like it does when
I add an Access datasource.
Has anyone else struggled with this?
Hope so, cheers

Default Re: MySQL connection

Database = what you named your database
Server = MySQL server address

You may have to download the latest JDBC drivers if you are using 4.1. The MySQL(3.x) driver will not work with MySQL 4x
