mySQL connection help

CFusion MX with MySQL 4.1
steps so far
1. downloaded mysql-connector-java-3.1.10.zip - no joy
2. now trying mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga.zip
error is
Connection verification failed for data source: test2
[]java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
The root cause was that: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

my config is:
driver file (mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar) is in the
{CFROOT}\WEB-INF\lib folder
then...
DSN Driver Type=other
JDBC URL=jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/talisman
Driver Class=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
Driver Name=empty (is this correct or should this be the filename... neither
value changes the error, mind you!)

Any advice exstatically received!

The correct place is in the {cf_root}/runtime/servers/lib directory if you're using CF Standard edition.

The JRun internals will load either .jar or .zip.

1. there is no lib folder under {cf_root}/runtime/servers
2. i added one and pasted the mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar into it,
but i still get the same error after restarting
3. if i play around and type in an incorrect database name, i get a different
error.... " ....please check your username, password, URL, and other
connectivity info."

Any other info I can try?

just downloaded the latest dev version mysql-connector-java-3.2.0-alpha-bin.jar
- popped it into C:\CFusionMX\wwwroot\WEB-INF\lib
and bob is your mother's brother!
- works both ways, specifying a data type of MySQL, or Other
