Mysql performance over internet connection - MySQL

I have a firebird client application running well on LAN. However, now I have to install clients on remote offices, that will access a central DB server over internet. Since Firebird was not designed for low latency connections (http://tech.groups./group/firebird- support/message/41780), I will change to Mysql or Postgresql. Is Mysql better than Firebird in such feature? Is a good choice to use Mysql over internet connection? If yes, what do you recommend for optimize it, like zebedee (http://www.winton.org.uk/zebedee/) or ssh tunnel? Thank you, Tom Lobato...

Um, did you actually read the original question?

I don't have specific experience with MySQL over high latency
connections but my 0.02 cents are that it's generally not good to use DB
connections that way. IMHO it's typically better to have a dedicated
protocol for such connections. I'd just try it out and see how it goes.

    Kind regards

Thank you for reply, lark, but my question is a little bit more
    especific.

    Thank you Robert,
    I'll make a test.
