MySql / php
Please excuse my total ignorance, but im doing something seriously wrong and
ive spent 6 hours trying to source the answer and getting nowhere.
Ive set up my apache/php/mysql testing server....things work fine
Ive set up the localhost tables, however when i upload theres nothing in my
database.
Maybe ive made a mistake, or misinterpreted something down the way, but i
thought that if you create tables and cross reference to them within
dreamweaver, these files will be uploaded to?
Ive had a look at my sight using ftp software and i can see mmServerScripts (
containing mysql.php and mmhttpdb.php) and a connections folder....
Could someone point me in the right direction before this noose around my neck
gets even more tighter
Many many thanks in advance......if you need more clarity please let me know

You have two options:
1. Ask your hosting company what method it recommends for uploading a
MySQL database. There are several methods. The right one depends on what
your host permits.
2. Rebuild the database with fresh data on the remote server.
MySQL data is not held in a single file that can be uploaded to a remote
server. It is held in several files, and needs to be transferred using a
utility such as mysqldump.

Re: MySql / php
Cheers David...
So, to be clear, when using the test server within dreamweaver, it literally
is a test? So it only preserves the content/behaviours in each
page..........the actual databases created are lost (and you need to
reconstruct in myphp for example from scratch, or can a get them from the
testing server files?)

are completely separate. The PHP pages built in Dreamweaver will work
with any database that has the same table design.
What you put in your MySQL database on your local test server is not
lost. It's a genuine database, but there isn't a single file that you
upload - MySQL stores data in a number of separate files. To transfer
the data from one server to another, you need to use a utility such as
mysqldump.
My personal method of working, however, is to design everything locally
as a test. Then rebuild the database on the remote server with fresh,
uncorrupted data. If you have already gone to the trouble of building
your database locally, you need to consult the hosting company as to the
best method to transfer it. It's not difficult, but it's not just a
question of FTPing a file.
