Re: Nasa raw image data
I may be mistaken, but I believe that much of the raw nasa image data is in the "FITS" format. This is also the file format used for the brilliant, Mac-only "LivePicture image manipulation/compositing software.
Have a look here to see if you might learn more. <http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/heasarc/fits.html>

Re: Nasa raw image data
No, those 2 FITS formats are unrelated.
The Astronomy one came first, and it's relatively simple.
The LivePicture one came later, and it's nasty (and undocumented last I checked).

Thought LP went belly up a good while ago?
I have version 2.6 I picked up on eBay a couple of years ago which I
thought was the last version made? And for Macintosh only, right?
Or is i back in production?

Mac...
Roxio owns it, and as far as I know, they have no plans for it. It's essentially been buried.
Most recent update was 2.6.2, which fixed some bugs, addressed some memory errors and some other things. Yep, Mac-Only...there are a few people kicking around these forums that swear by it for large files.
From what I get from reading, it would appear that Asiva Photo <http://www.asiva.com/photo.html>seems to operate in much the same way as LivePicture.
