In Appleworks, record macro (assign name), hit F1, hit delete key,

Macros are discontinued the Appleworks under OS X. I found that out
after buying it explicity for this abilit under OS X. Live and learn.

I use Quickeys for this kind of stuff. Easily done. There are some
less expensive shareware software programs that could allow for this I
guess, but they all have limitations of their own that Quickeys usually
    does not.

In this case Quickeys could do all this keyboard mapping for Appleworks
but limit the scope of these re-assignments to the one program.

I'm unsure if other programs would it it, but I know Quickeys will.

Try this <http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/>. The "Lite" version is free,
and may suffice for your needs.

I have the full version, and it's a good program. It don't believe it
has an approach by which you can fashion hotkeys to work only within
the scope of a single program (like Appleworks). If that's not
    important it might well suffice.

It does exactly what I need it to do. Thanks!
