    Default Need Advice Please

    Hi,
I am having all sorts of problems with casts in DMX2004. Putting aside all the
problems I am having with creating new external casts, and saving them as
shockwave files, I am experiencing some strange problems. When I play my movie
in authoring mode, I can go to a frame and see text only, but not photos that I
put on the stage; when I publish my projector at the exact same time, I go to
the same frame and see the photos but not text (exact opposite).

Could it be a flaw with the version that I installed on my computer or is
something that commonly occurs? I've been searching all the users groups and
websites and can't find much. What I am trying to create is not very
complicated, but it has my project completely gridlocked, and it is driving me
    nuts.

There's no obvious caue for the missing text/photo it may have to do
with the caswts you have them arranged in. Does your 'simple' project
    really need multiple casts?

One cast management aid, with cast window frontmost one can use window
menu new window command to open another cast window, member can be
dragged from one windo to the other without loosing score linkage to
    those members.

Save All can be used to save changes in all casts at once.

This isn't typical behavior for any versions of Director that I've heard
of. Have you done a Save and Compact lately? Do you get similar results in
simple tests? Are all the members imported as Standard (not Linked)?

    Thank you both for replying,

JB, I transferred some of the text members that weren?t showing up in the
projector, from the external cast (one with the photos), to an internal cast,
and sure enough they showed up. So the problem is definitely related to my
external casts. My project is simple in that there is not a lot of lingo, but
it does involve a lot of text, flash swfs, sounds, photos and videos, so it
makes sense to use a lot of different casts. I used shockwave external casts
for the slide show and photo library, because that is the only way I?ve found
to make them all fit on the cd.

Mark, I tried doing a save and compact, didn?t help. I do get similar results
even using simple tests, and I imported them all as standard rather than linked
(only have problems when using external casts though). Also, I get different
results (things not appearing in 1 but not another, and vice-versa), when I use
a stub to launch the projector.

Can I create a new internal cast, and convert that to shockwave? That would
probably solve some of my problems, but I haven?t found a way to do it.

This is really odd. You might consider un/reinstalling Director and make
sure you don't have any virus checkers running during the install. That was
problematice in one of the older versions, but it may still cause problems
    in MX 2004.

Does it help if you change the Publish Settings/Compression to Standard,
    then save and compact?

Sure, since the cast is internal, it is Shocked in the movie (.dcr).
