Default NEED HELP! After scanning and saving as PDF, how do I edit text?

Hi - I've scanned several documents in and saved them as a .pdf file. Is there a way that I can edit the text in these files? Or do I have to scan them in as an OCR file? Thank you!

Perform OCR in Acrobat once they have been scanned.

You need to use the Paper Capture plug-in. This is included in Acrobat 6 and can be downloaded for free for Acrobat 5.

Be aware that if you want to perform any kind of major editing you should really scan it into another application and make your changes there and then convert to PDF in the normal way.

Hi Jonathan - thanks for your quick reply. But when I try to do the "Paper Capture" option, an error msg pops up saying that page is of an unsupported resolution. How can I change the resolution of my document??

Rescan the document with a suitable resolution. What resolution did
    you scan at?

I'm sorry - I'm probably going to come across sounding like an idiot -it's set at 100 dpi. What is a "suitable" resolution? Higher or lower?

100 is pretty low. 300 is industry standard for imaging, but you can go up to 1200 on most printers and scanners.

Also, Dorice, after you scan the image in, you will need to make sure at Paper Capture you change the options to "formattable text and graphic" if you want to edit the text.

It has to be between 200dpi and 600dpi. Start with 300 and experiment to get the best results.

For OCR to work, you need 200 dpi. So there's not enough information
(not enough dots) in the image for the text to be recognised.

OCR is not the magic bullet many of us wish it to be; it requires good
originals, careful scanning, and testing with different options. So
try 200, 300 and 400 dpi. Not more than 400.
