Need Help Exporting
Sorry if this question may seem elementary but I am very new to print design and freehand.
I have put together an ad for a local newspaper, I user raster effects of 170 ppi becuase it is the same as the paper prints in.
Now, we are a computer company so all of our products pictures come from the web. The pictures I use I convert to .tif first (as I was told this was the best to do) and then insert them into my freehand document.
When I zoom into my document the imported .tif files zoom perfectly, but when I export the Freehand Doc to 1 big TIF file fo the newspaper (they requested this because they are an adobe shop, photoshop, Quark Xpress and illustrator) some of the Picture seem Pixalated or Blocky.
When I told them about this they said the files are to small and this will happen. But it only happens to a select few pictures.
One example of this is I imported a picture of a computer bag that was 68k, it exported perfect and clear, but an imported picture of a keyboard that was 180k seems fuzzy. The bag had dimensions of 300x300 and the Keyboard was 400x400, I scaled them both down to 100x100 in my Freehand doc.
Please help, very frustrated

Re: Need Help Exporting
In order to better understand what is happening it would be better if
you could give us the dimensions and resolution of the images as
reported by an image editor such as Photoshop.
I would also recommend that you don't export as TIFF from FreeHand. You
are much better off exporting as an EPS and then opening in Photoshop
and letter it rasterize the EPS. You can then save as a TIFF from there.
Also if you are doing print work, then setting your measurements in
FreeHand to Pixels is not helping you any. Switch to either inches
(US), mm or cm (elsewhere) or picas if you use them at your paper.

Re: Need Help Exporting
Thank you for the reply Rich,
I do not have photoshop (although i could get it, wink wink) I am a Macromedia guy, I am a Webdesigner by trade and Use Dreamweaver, ColdFusion and FLash and Fireworks.
I have only started doing print ad and by the question I asked you can tell I am very new.
I have fixed my problem and somehow got my images sharp and it was the craziest thing.
To correct the problem I stopped importing the files but rather opened the JPEG (not the tiff) in Internet Explorer and copied it by right clicking and then pasted into freeehand. When I out put the freehand doc to a tif it was perfect. Any Idea how this happened becuase it really seems liek a backwards way of doing things.
Thanks again for your help and I do use Inches to set my doc size, but as a form of measurement i use pixels becuause i find it better for using effects and i know what size my images are in pixels.
Thanks again
Mike
