I use InDesign 2.0 on Windows and it is unable to open my document. I've tried all the standard recoery techniques but have resported to this forum.
I was wondering if someone could try opening my document on a Mac and see if it is able to be read. It would save me quiet a few hours of work!
Please email me at; alan miller at g mail dot com (no spaces in any of the address).
It's small (330k).
Thanks,
Alan

The document may have been created in CS3 which is why you can't open it in CS2. Ask the person who created the doc which version of ID he/she used. Or click though my name and email me the doc.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
So far, the 3 Min exam is giving me the BOD (beachball of death). ID did start up, got a missing font screen and then the beachball.
[update] Both files give me BOD on the mac.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
Do you get BOD on just these two files or all file you now create? What happens on the PC when you go to open? I tried on my mac. Don't have ID on PC yet.
Bob Levine is on PC and might be able to help. He usually comes by later in the day.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
I got the files from Richard. They were not created with 2.0, they were
created using a late beta of CS.
Go out and buy a legal version of the program and you'll have a lot more
success.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
Thanks for your help, but I do have a purchased copy. I was incorrect, it's InDesign CS version 3.0, but as far as I know it's not a beta. I went to the About screen and it did not say beta, and believe me, it wasn't cheap to purchase.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
I opened one of the files and checked it out. According to the document
history it was created with CS 3.0.0.404.
That's a beta build. To be sure that the history is correct cmd+click
about InDesign in the InDesign menu and if you see you're using build
404 whoever sold you that copy was a crook.
If not did someone else create the file?

Whoops. I forgot you're on Windows. Ctrl+click About InDesign under the
Help menu.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
Did you buy this from Adobe or an authorized reseller like amazon, small dog or cdw?
That's interesting. Usually ID won't even boot from a CS3 file.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
CS2 won't even boot when trying to open a CS3. I usually get a message that it doesn't recognize the format or such. I don't recall ever getting as far as a doc window and missing fonts message appearing when attempting to open CS3 in CS2. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

What it OP??
Something about pirating?
I just ask because I didn't know a five-hour lapse in posting meant someone had disappeared.

OP usually stands for "Original Poster".

Five hours of silence after emailing his file to fellow users for checking, while posting in other threads in the meantime, does look like disappearing to me.

Re: Need help from Mac user - Indesign document corrupted
Sorry guys, I really have no idea where this post is going. I needed some help with a file. I can get my Adobe version, but it's at work and I won't be in until tomorrow.
I haven't posted anywhere else this is the first (and likely last) time I'll be on this forum.
I just needed a Mac user to try and open my file to recover see if it was viable on another platform other than my Windows copy.
Richard, thanks for your assistance. I've spent the past 3 hours redoing my work and finally am back to where I was before I lost the document.

I haven't posted anywhere else
I must have been seeing things. Before posting my previous message, I clicked on your name, and I could swear that I saw some two-three messages posted in other threads, therefore my commentary. Now there aren't any, just as you say. I apologize for my mistake.
