a working button in it that opens something, for instance - the sample
button could just launch the calculator in Windows. This would allow me to
see how things have to be set up in my own movie.

Sorry if this is REALLY a basic concept, but I've been away from Director since version 6.

I'm putting together a portfolio for a potential employer and need to know if it's possible to launch (via a button cast member) a flash or director projector (.exe) within the stage area of my project or if it simply has to call out to open the .exe in it's own window.

Either way - can someone tell me what script behavior I need to assign to my button? I tried using the onClick command followed by open (ApplicationName) but that doesn't work.

It would be really great to get a sample .dir movie from someone that has a working button in it that opens something, for instance - the sample button could just launch the calculator in Windows. This would allow me to see how things have to be set up in my own movie.

    Many Thanks!!!

    on mouseDown
    open("my.exe")
    end

No, Director can not open .exe files within the Stage. But Director can open other Director files (.dir, .dxr) files either within the Stage or as a child window (MIAW - Movie In A Window).

    on mouseDown
go to frame 1 of movie "someMovie"
    end
