Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
I know you have to get to a web server, but don't know how.
Wade was suggesting that one is provided for me free with Road Runner. I'm on Windows XP right now.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
Hi Dee
Sorry I was out more today then I thought, if you can go to the Road Runner home page there may be a link that says your account go there and then when you get to the link there may be a link to your web space or something like how to set up a website.
Let me know if you find it if not contact the Road Runner Tech support.
Then I will be able to guide you but you should have web space available to you.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
I just checked and you do have web space you have to find out the path.
It is not as mysterious as it sounds.
There is a folder on the server that is where your web space is tech support should be able to help find or go to the tutorial for creating a web page.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
Yeah, right. That was about as much fun as I thought it would be.
First when I was trying to log on, I thought I forgot my password. So I changed it. Got a confirmation by e-mail, tried to log on again, Server Error. Changed password again. Confirmation e-mail. Again tried to log on, Server Error.
Finally went onto Online Chat Help. Have a server problem in my area, no estamated time for recovery.
So I'll keep you posted.
Thanx again.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
Dee just it easy as you have never done this before it will seem strange. Just don't try to figure it out. You do have to write the info down and remember if there is anything wring with the typing of the info then it fails so sometimes you fail even though you are doing the right thing so you have to double and triple check to make sure you are 100% accurate.

I'm trying to learn the lingo
Does this work?
Sorry, if this is annoying, I know of no other way to experiment. Please feel free to give suggestions.

Well, that worked out good. But how do I practice this without being on the web?

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
Cindy call tech support I will send you some screen shots to show you how easy it is to upload an image or an image and a page using Fetch or Interachie I think that is what it is called these days.
I will also send you and example of how to write the simple html code for posting a link very simple once you do it. What most people do is create it once than copy and paste and only change the name of the image or page.
It looks and seems very complicate but is very simple.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
O.K. Wade, I don't know if Cindy's ready, but I think I'm all set up.
I setup a home page and downloaded FTP software. Don't quite know what to do with it yet, but it'll be a step ahead if I learn to post a file.
Remember I'm on Windows XP at home. I will be able to also post on this site from my Mac at work, right?

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
Having a problem understanding what to put type in the FTP program to upload a file.
I found my site and it said "Congratulations You Completed Your Setup" but now need to replace file with index.html
I do go through the FTP program for that, right. But I keep getting a "UtOh" sound which means I'm not doing something right.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
I replaced the index.html file (which only gave me the congrats you've successfully created web page) with a picture of my dog. But all I see on the site is a box with an X in the left hand corner.
Looks like I don't have a pluggin to read the file. What am I doing wrong?
I saved the file to web as a .jpg from Photoshop.
If we fix that, then I would like to try to link it to this page, if no one minds.
Doesn't seem like anyone else is interested in this post anyway. And it will help me to learn how to post an example on this forum (eventually) I hope.

Re: Need steps on how to post a file on the forum
This is what you did wrong the home page has to be called index.html and it has to be an .html document. Do you have Go Live or Dreamweaver to create a .html page?
Or BBEdit which is a free text Editor for creating documents such as.html documents.
If not I will help you and create a home page that you will be able to open in BBedit lite to replace your index.html.
However for posting an image by itself once your image is uploaded to the site
all you have to do is point the link to you web address and add after it a /imagename.jpg.
Try it you will see your doggies picture for instance say your site is
<http://www.deeholmesworldwide.com/doggie.jpeg>
now this will look like a link but will take the user nowhere but you type the correct path in the url field of your browser you will see your doggies picture. Try it.
