Need to link to files on a read-only network drive - Macromedia Contribute Connection Administrtion

:frown; The only way I've managed to create links that POINT to files on network shares (without having Contribute ftp a copy to the web server) is to create a site connection to the drive as if it were a web site. The configuration files for the site fail to write there, however, because the share is read-only. Has anyone managed to browse to a network file and create a file:// link?...

Hey jdwright. I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to link to some large
drawing files we have on a file server that we don't want copied up to the web
server. It appears that Contribute only copies files up to the web server when
you put in the file:// link. Not a solution we'll be able to live with.

Let me know if you find something.

I think I've found a solution for this problem. While in the link properties,
I select 'Browse to Web Page' and enable the Advanced properties. In the HREF
field I enter 'file://\\<server name>\<network drives>' That is two forward
slashes, then two backward slashes. Contribute will not copy the file to the
Web Server. The link will point to the file on an external file server.

    Hope this helps.
