Nested styles not exporting to Tagged Text
Hello all,
I tried to search but found nothing relevant; I apologize if this has been previously discussed.
I'm running InDesign CS 3.0.1 on a Pentium 4, Windows XP Pro SP1, 512 MB RAM machine.
I've noticed a glitch--possibly--or else it's something I'm simply doing wrong.
I have both paragraph styles and character styles in a master template I'm creating. The paragraphs are to begin with italicized text, which reverts back to regular text after a colon.
(Sample paragraph opening sentence:This is italic: and this is not.)
So I've merely created an italic character style that's nested in a paragraph style. It works fine.
The problem happens when I try to export the "story" to InDesign Tagged Text (Unicode text format). (The reasons why I need to do this export are too numerous to list.)
Ultimately, I need to import the tagged text back into InDesign. The problem is, it doesn't seem to import the nested styles. Is this a known flaw in InDesign?
(If you're curious, here's a sample error message I get when importing the tagged text into InDesign:
<Line No>:- 12 <Error>:- Encountered errors while importing the paragraph style "PB_Session_Chairs". This paragraph style has been set to [no paragraph style].)
Thanks to anyone who may shed some light, or who even dares to try! :)

Re: Nested styles not exporting to Tagged Text
I think there is a flaw. I seem to recall that to overcome it, you must locally have at least one character of text set in each character style that is called by a nested style.
If you don't, the character style itself is not exported and so the link to it from the nested style is broken on re-import.

Why thank you, Dave. :) I hope Adobe fixes this for version 3.0.2.
