Netbios Broadcast from all XP machines
Hello, I work for a company that has just setup a new 2003
Server Network SBS 2003 with all PC's running XP. The
current IT person there has been concerned about the logs
on the firewall as they appear to show all PC's
broadcasting themselves on the 'Internet' as they have
file and print shareing enabled. If this is the case is
the only way to stop this to disable file and print
shareing and netbios on every machine?
Thanks in advance

Re: Netbios Broadcast from all XP machines
NetBIOS broadcasts cannot cross routers. So, unless the XP machines have
public IP addresses, they cannot make such broadcasts on the Internet. What
the firewall logs might be showing is DNS traffic if the clients are not
properly configured to use the SBS DNS server.
