Re: Network Installation
Let me tell you about a product that we recommend to people that want to limit the concurrent use of software licenses. It is called SofTrack. It is a cross-platform platform that will help you control software licenses by restricting concurrent usage and by blocking use of undesirable applications.
SofTrack's reporting options also include an audit trail of all applications used.
You can find it at

Re: Network Installation
Acrobat's licensing doesn't restrict by concurrent users, it restricts by available users.
If you make the application available to 100 uers, you need 100 licenses, even if only 50 will be using it at once.

Re: Network Installation
Just for clarification there is a different policy for concurrent use if you are an educational institution.
<http://www.adobe.com/education/pdf/concurrency_FAQ.pdf>
There is also a chart here that lists vendors and their licensing policies that can be helpfull.

Acrobat has to be installed locally; it's a technical thing, even
before you get into licensing. This is because it isn't just an
application program, it also needs printer driver, which are by
definition local.

Network installation
We're a K12 school and I've bought a number of CS licenses.
Is there any way to make a server installation of it?
I don't like to have to install ~200MB on 30 PC's if I
can put it on the server instead.
When I run setup I can't even choose to install to the network drives.

Re: Network installation
That sucks bigtime.
Suddenly I don't like Adobe that much anymore.
Any idea why they won't allow it?

Re: Network installation
Go find me a high end app that will work this way with the same speed as
a local install. Besided that, how would control how many people access
the software? There are licensing issues, you know?

Re: Network installation
Good choice of software for your students, BTW.
There are a bunch of apps that won't work well, if at all, on a network
install. Autocad comes to mind. If you could get ID to run, the network
access would probably kill the server. And, working on files that are on the
LAN is slow enough; putting the app out there would be brutal.
