Networking problem - request for help
I'm trying to get a desktop and laptop networked at
home. Both have Windows XP Pro. I previously (thru
hired consultant) had them networked at my office. Now,
the consultant is telling me that once the computers are
networked we cannot re-network them again unless the
Windows XP Pro operating system is reloaded. Apparently,
if I understand this correctly, once XP Pro is networked,
it won't let you change (or re-network?) the network
without wiping everything out and starting all over. Is
this true? This is incredibly bad news. Is there an
alternative? Thanks for any help. Ed

>Well, ed i hope sombody helps comfirm wether thats true,
this ,,
i too am hooking up a desktop and laptop.
i too am typing here for help.
my usrobotics router was hooked to a modem and both pcs
and it worked.THEN the desktop's graphic card and the
built in net card stopped working.i switched to the built
in graphic card, it worked.
i had changed out 3 net cards including the built in one
and nothing.
I was told to connect the modem straight in to the
computer built in card, it worked again.
so i hooked the router to the desktop through the other
netcard that i left installed.attached to the wan link
and it now supplies internet to the laptop fine, BUT i
lost my workgroup and cant find a way to get it back.the
laptop and desktop dont see eachother yet but i am sure i
will figure it out with help from here. right guys.
I have yet to experience computers that do everything
right wasup withat. administrator acct might have
somthing to do with both our probs.
