Networking XP Home edition and Professional
Hi, I have a network of 2 computers without a domain at
home. One machine runs Win XP Pro and the other runs Home
Edition. They both have only one user who is admin. I
setup the network wizard for both of them.
From XP Pro I can see the Home Edition PC and access its
shared folders no problem. The problem is the Home
Edition PC sees the XP Pro PC in the net neighborhood but
can't access its shared folders.
Simple file sharing is enabled on XP Pro. I tried
enabling the guest account even though you don't need to
when file sharing is enabled but it made no difference.
- I'm able to ping each other.
- When I double click the XP pro PC in the net
neighborhood from Home Ed. I get a message saying I don't
have the rights and it can't find the path.
- I also tried to disable simple file sharing and share a
folder manually (with guest account enabled), didn't work.
I thought of creating a domain? Or maybe is this normal
behavior and Home Edition can't access Pro Edition shared
folders? Any suggestions??
Thank you in advance,
Moe
