So, exactly how did you improve the parrot's photos so much? They look
great! Eleanor

Eleanor,
I used LEVELS and CURVES, which I'd never experimented with before! Jim
Babbage offered a lot of insight, and I decided to take his course on
Community MX ($2) to learn more. Frankly, it was worth it, as your comment
proves! Thank you!

Anyway, two items:
If you can, do something about the length of the page with the pictures
of all the parrots (http://www.partyparrots.com/troupe.htm) - maybe use
two columns rather than one long one? It's annoying to do all that
scrolling.
In the party pictures pages
(http://www.partyparrots.com/luau/photo1.htm), the scroll is painfully
slow. Maybe go into the settings and speed it up?

Re: New & Improved -- Site Check
2 things.... no no... wait 3 things.
FWIW:
1) On this page, http://www.partyparrots.com/luau/photo1.htm , the
instructions for using the Gee Whiz Scroller don't fit on a 1024x768
maximized browser.
2) Hopefully, picture names like 1MVC-007S won't be displayed to the user.
I expected they are sequence file names generated by a Sony Mavica or DSC
camera, but they won't mean a thing to your visitors.
3) The mouseover "chain link fence" might be a little bit too much. The
watermark should suffice. And the Mouseover event is not fired when SnagIt
or most other screen capture utilities are active.
Cheers,
Sam

Re: New & Improved -- Site Check
This addresses comments and questionsfrom several folks...
Durwood Edwards: the tutorial was called LEVELS AND CURVES by Jim Babbage.
If you are not familiar with those two editing tools, this is a brief
tutorial that was well worth $2 to me to get my pictures to look better!
I'd generally rather buy a book, but this was a case of "I want the answers
now, to fix this problem NOW."
Sam Poikail had three things:
1. What browser/OS are you running, Sam? I've checked in NN4, NN7, and
IE6 and those instructions are appropriately contained in even an 800x600
browser. Would love to know what's failing there!
2. The picture names are indeed displayed to the user. Yes, we are
using names assigned by the camera. The purchaser needs a reference
number/item number and this is devilishly convenient.
3. The mouseover "chain link fence" _is_ probably a bit much, but it's
fun, and shows the clients that we are taking our ownership of these
pictures pretty seriously. However, you and I both know that anyone truly
determined to get a copy of those pictures will indeed be able to do so by
SnagIt or many other methods. The site owner wanted to make it as difficult
as possible for a "moocher," and I think we've done that!
Joe Makowiec had two items:
1. The length of the gallery pages... I struggled over this one, Joe.
I didn't want to use the scroller again, as I do for client pictures under
Events. I wanted to maintain a layout that would be practical for someone
viewing at a minimun of 800x600. I tried a number of methods, but if I
doubled up I lost the ability of having the full-sized photo next to the
thumbnail, and I didn't like the look. I agree that this is an issue with
this design, but I've yet to discover a satisfactory solution. Any ideas
graciously accepted!
2. I wonder if that scroller speed issue is based on a slow connection
or something? It's quite fast on several machines I've used for testing
(although I have not tested on a Mac). Could you take another look and see
if it is still so slow on your system, please, or if it was some sort of
Internet bottle-up? I'd love to know your OS and browser as well!
Thanks again to all! Today I head back in to adjust the color of the text
that appears below the egg... now that the background color has been
changed, that text doesn't have enough contrast to be easily readable.

My, my, my... anyhow, with the caveat that I neither work for nor benefit
financially from anything to do with this site, the "Exact Link" is:
