New user can't select text

Hi Folks,

Just got Illustrator CS after years of using AI8 and I'm bogged down already!

I'm building a web page, so I started with the "blank" web page template that shipped with ICS. I quickly entered some graphics onto the page and saved it out.

When I enter text into the saved page (either in a text box or directly), the text appears normally. But, when I try to select the text by clicking and dragging or double clicking the text, I cannot do so. The only thing that happens is that an insertion point appears at the click point.

As a test, I created a new document, and text selects just as I would expect it to. When I paste some text from the new document to the old, the selection problem reappears. Editing of all other objects and items appears to function normally.

Do you have any ideas why text selection is not working properly in this document?

Can you select the text block with one of the arrow selection tools?

Not sure what happened here, but the problem is solved. I selected all items on the page, and then deleted some extraneous points and objects. When I again attempted to select text, all was working fine.

I chalk this one up to some bad voodoo...

In the preferences uncheck select text object by path only.
