New User need help with bitmap color
Hi I imported a couple of digital lacrosse photos into fireworks, I want to just manupulate the player and not the background. How do I cut him out without it being so "edgy" and is there an automatic way to change the color of the player totally black without sacrificing detail? Thanks

Re: New User need help with bitmap color
There are a few different ways you can do this. I'm not sure if you want to
keep the player or the background, but in either case, one method would be
to use the Lasso or Polygon Lasso, with a feathered selection - try 10
pixels. Draw your selection around the player (assuming that is what you
want to affect) and press the delete key, or fill the area with color using
the Paint Bucket.
You can also use a feathered vector mask and create this effect without
actually discarding any pixel information.

One thing to know is that all bitmap images consist of square pixels, so that "edgy" appearance is the result of how the image is displayed.
That having been said, you can use vector objects to mask the bitmap and you can set the vector mask object to have an anti-aliased edge so that your masked bitmap will appear to blend better with its background, reducing the "edgy" appearance you are seeing. Take a look at this TechNote and those linked at the bottom of it for more information:
