Newbee Contribute questions

I just got the program and am trying to wrap my mind around it. So
basically I can open Contribute 3 as a stand alone program or I can access
much of its functionality in DW-8. Is there ever anytime that a webmaster
needs to open the Contribute as a stand alone?

and I should look elsewhere if I should have any hope of finding an answer.

You will need to use Contribute Solo if you use Contribute Publishing Services (Server?) (CPS) to administer your Contribute users.
