(Newbie) AIX Questions
Just started caring for RS/6000 running AIX 4.3. Planning on doing
upgrade to 5.2 but have a couple of questions.
1. Volume group rootvg is mirrored (hdisk0 and hdisk1) but the
mirroring must have been created with AIX 3.2 or so because I have an
lv on hdisk1 called hd5x. Question - should I remove this and create a
new hd5 on hdisk1 (like hdisk0) or just leave it and update it with
bosboot comand ?
2. Other than being sure the microcode / firmware is up-to-date on
system / components, is there anything else to watch out for during
upgrade from 4.3 to 5.2. I've seen mention of "turn off rootvg
mirroring before migration". Is this true ?
Thanks
Rick

Re: (Newbie) AIX Questions
In you condition I try with alternate_disk_install after break mirror of
rootvg. With this option you can mantain on one disk your current 4.3
environment and on other disk you can install/migrate at 5.1.

So I break the rootvg mirror and do an alt_disk_install on hdisk1.
Does this alternate disk install actually do a migration (keeping
system setting) from rootvg / hdisk0 or does it perform a new
installation on hdisk1.
How about if I remove all lv's on hdisk1, remove it from rootvg, then
add it back into rootvg and mirrorvg rootvg hdisk1 ? This will give me
2 disks with AIX 4.3.3 on them - correct?
Can't I then do a migration install onto hdisk1 ?
If any of this sounds dumb, please remember the word "Newbie" :-)
