Re: newbie question - doc size
Document units of measure are set in the Units pop-up at the bottom of the
document window. You can override the current units by typing in "8.5 in".
Look in the FH help files under 'Setting Units of Measure'. It's all there
in detail.

Re: newbie question - doc size
Libbi,
When talking to a computer, [8.5"] is not the same as [8.5 in].
Okay, let's use a foolproof, step-by-step method.
1. Using the Units pop-up at bottom of document window, change Document
Units to Inches.
2. If you have more than one page in the document, make sure the page you
want to change is active. In Document inspector panel, change page size to
Custom, x: 8.5, y: 8.5. Press Enter. Page is now 8.5 x 8.5 inches.
3. If you now want to work in pixels, change the Document Units back to
pixels. The page size would read 612 x 612 pixels which is the equivalent of
8.5 x 8.5 inches.
Another handy way to change page size is with the Page Tool.
Option-double-click (Mac) on the page with the Page Tool and enter the
dimension in the dialog box.

those programs that are capable of converting units and parsing
arithmetical expressions, each has its own quirks regarding what
abbreviations &c. it will and won't accept.
