Default newbie question re system requirements

Does anyone know if PS 5.0 will operate properly with Windows XP
operating system? Alternatively, can you suggest how I can find out?
My question is because I am (newbie)trying PS 5.0 on my newer Dell
computer. When I try to import photos from "my photos", I can't do it.
I press File, then I go to Import, and import gives me 2 choices:
    1: select twain 32...
    2. twain 32...
I don't even know what Twain is.
Am I doing it incorrectly to send photos to PS from My Pictures or is
5.0 no good with my xp operating system.
This old non-tech guy will appreciate any help. Best to all Swellmel

    Mel,
    Twain is scanner type stuff.
Just go to File>OPEN. Then look for a picture.
You don't have to import the pix per se.
Photoshop is a graphic program and photo editor...not an album.
You CAN browse for pictures by going up to File>Browse and looking for your
"My Pictures" folder on the tree on the left, and browsing the thumbnails on
    the right.
But PS is mainly for altering photos and images...not storing them.
    Hope that helps

Twain means, and I kid thee not, The one Without an Interesting Name. It
has to do with scanner software.
