Default Newly Installed Illustrator CS Won't Run

The school I work for recently upgraded from Ill 10 to Ill CS in the process of doing a fresh imaging for the new semester. However, this has not been a good thing. First, let me point out that all of our clients are identical single-proc G5s, and we used Apple's NetInstall protocol from OSX10.3.3 server to image all of the machines with exactly the same software (including OS 10.3.3). However, on a little under half of the machines, attempting to open Illustrator causes it to crash out with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS exception with the KERNAL_PROTECTION_FAILURE code before it even gets past its initial loading phase, UNLESS you are logged in as the administrator, in which case it works fine.

Attempts to talk with Adobe have produced nothing of use. Standard attempts to produce a solution (repair permissions, re-install, delete the pref files, replace the user's prefs with the admin's, etc) have been no use. Has anyone else ever seen anything remotely like this? Anyone even know where to start, other than completely blowing out the machine and starting over?

Are the files in the Illustrator folder locked? If so unlock them and reset permissions to the current user.

Have you tried making the user account in question an admin account as well?

I have had all the same problems. Using a Dual 1.25 GHz G4, 1.25 GB RAM, OS 10.3.3. I had similar problems with OS 10.2.x, and 10.3.x. I've tried all the same remedies as posted on this forum and from Adobe tech support. None of them eliminated the quitting/crashing issues.

I'm currently running the Adobe CS on a machine I've rebuilt 3 times and none of the rebuilds eliminated the quitting/crashing issues. All 5 apps quit unexpectedly (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and GoLive) at random intervals. One day I'll have not a single quit, the next day all 5 apps will quit at startup or quit in the middle of some task. I doubt this is a font issue - my fonts check out fine in Suitcase 11.0.2, and the quits/crashes occur even when I have no fonts loaded except the system fonts.

Please - somebody take ownership of this problem. I'm trying to run a business and keep my clients' projects on schedule. I went to great financial lengths to abandon Quark and OS 9.x, only to encounter even uglier and more time-consuming troubleshooting nonsense with OS X and CS. Unfortuanately I'm using a maching that won't boot OS 9.2.2 and the many files I've created in InDesign have no previous app that will handle them. Otherwise I'd uninstall the whole suite and revert back to all previous versions.

Here's a crazy idea: it's Adobe's fault. All the feedback I'm reading and hearing from Adobe is that's it's a corrupted this or corrupted that on the user end. I think that's b.s. It looks to me like this is a buggy set of apps that aren't quite ready, given so many people are having the same problems I'm having. Let's go Adobe - I want you to kick Quark's butt out the door. But it won't happen if I can't use your program reliably.
