    Bran,
     [/ref]

Auto-traced in what? And why, having converted to vector by tracing, do you
then save as PNG converting it BACK to a raster format? You might just as
well save the original scan as PNG.......there is no point in auto-tracing
if you then save as a raster format.

    Re: PSD size -out

A PNG format compresses data. PSD does not, and allows for many other things like layers, paths, etc. Even if you don't use these, some overhead for them has to be loaded. It is not unusual for files to be 10, 100 or even 1000 times larger in PSD format than in a compressed file format.

You will be able to make the file small again by saving it back to PNG.

    PSD size -out

    Folks,
Fairly new to PS7 and wondering what I've done to cause the following. Suggestions and remedies very welcome, please ! ;-)

I have an original piece of b&w line art which I have scanned, auto-traced and saved as an 8-bit PNG. It makes a file 17.6 Kb in size.

I then open this in PS7 and save it as a PSD, single layer only, choosing the background colour (white) as transparent.

The PSD is 24.3 Mb !

Ummm... what have I done ?!
